Mr Swart graduated with a BArch BAS degree in 1995 at the University of the Witwatersrand and is a registered Professional Architect in South Africa. He has 19 years of architectural design and development experience in a broad range of projects in the Sub-Saharan African region including housing estates, luxury private residences, corporate offices, restaurants, regional shopping centres, commercial warehousing, and private and commercial game lodges/resorts.

He began his career as a Design Architect and Associate of Jaggam-RS Architects & Urban Designers (6 years), then became the Principal Architect and Manager of the firm Traves James Architects SA (a subsidiary of a UK practice – for 3 years), and in 2004 officially opened his own practice, Paul Swart Architects, which operates from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa (10 years).

With a keen interest in environmental conservation and contextual architecture, he is committed to the pursuit of design excellence while implementing practical and sustainable architecture which is socially, economically and environmentally responsible.

Mr Swart is also the Founder and Managing Director of Stonefield Developments (Pty) Ltd, which was formed to design and develop environmentally sensitive housing estates in South Africa. The successful turn-key project, ‘Thorntree Estate’ in Douglasdale, Sandton, will be completed in 2014.
